     Herbert Marcuse PhD has been described as a "leftist" German philosopher. He studied and taught in Berlin and Freiburg, completing his doctoral dissertation in 1922. He emigrated to the United States in 1933 and became a US citizen in 1940. He taught political theory at Columbia, Harvard and Brandeis Universities and finally at the University of California, San Diego.

He was born 19 July 1898. He married Sophie Wertheim 1924 Berlin, Germany. Herbert Marcuse PhD and Sophie Wertheim immigrated 1934; to New York. Herbert Marcuse PhD married Inge S. Werner 1956 CA. Herbert Marcuse PhD married Erica Reed "Ricky" Sherover PhD, daughter of Meyer (Miles Michael) Sherover and Anna (?), 1976. Herbert Marcuse PhD died 29 July 1979 age 81; of a stroke during a visit in Germany.
