Caving / Mining
Spelunking was a frequent activity with the PATC group.
Later Karl and Barbara took his scout troop on a number of caving trips.
Perhaps that may have partly led to the fact that Hilde later worked
for a few years as a coal miner.
Mountain Climbing
An early love of hiking extended into week-end mountaineering
activity at Seneca Rocks WV, a memorable climb of the Grand Teton in WY
and family backpacking in the Wind River Range.
