     Major John Welsh was an early settler and officeholder in Anne Arundel County, he served as a Justice in 1667 and 1676. He served as Sheriff 1678-79. He acquired several plantations including "Preston's Enlargement".

     Col. John Welsh II was an iron shipper and merchant in partnership with his cousin, Richard Snowden. His home plantation, "Arnold Gray" was located on the west side of the South River. He served as a Justice and as a County Commissioner of Anne Arundel County from 1726 until his death in 1733.
