     Laurlene Straughn was a teacher of English and drama in Baltimore schools and at several Universities. She served as Director of Theater Hopkins at Johns Hopkins University for many years until her retirement in 1984. Several of her students became well known leaders in theater film and music.

She was born on 20 August 1911. She married Robert William Pratt circa 1943. Laurlene Straughn died on 21 June 2003 Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, MD, at age 91; complications from pneumonia.

     Mary Elizabeth Straughn was born in 1835 MD. She married Thomas J. Satterfield on 8 February 1854; based on age of first child in 1860 and listing in Queen Anne"s Co MD Marriages. They had at least 3 children: Joseph, Thomas, Mary. Mary Elizabeth Straughn died on 19 March 1901 MD.

     Theodore Ringgold Straughn was shown as a sailor at the 1860 census.

He was born on 9 February 1805 Caroline Co, MD. He married Hester Knotts on 14 March 1826 MD. Theodore Ringgold Straughn survived Hester Knotts in 1833. Theodore Ringgold Straughn married Elizabeth Jarman, daughter of Robert Jarman and Sarah [Jarman], MD. Theodore Ringgold Straughn died on 19 January 1885 at age 79. He was buried Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, Queen Anne's Co, MD.

     Thomas Straughn was born in July 1800 Caroline Co, MD. He married Sarah Price on 3 March 1828 Caroline Co, MD.

     Thomas W. Straughn was a wheelwright in Centreville MD in 1860, later a carpenter and farmer in Caroline County MD.

He was born circa 1838 Caroline Co, MD; age shown as 12 yrs at 1850 census, 22 yrs at 1860 census. He married Mary Augusta Pippen, daughter of James Pippen and Permelia (?). Thomas W. Straughn died in March 1901.

     Virginia Susan Straughn was born in 1848 MD.

     William Ringgold Straughn was President of Mansfield State Teachers' College, Mansfield, Pennsylvania for 22 years until his death in 1936. He worked as a newspaper reporter while attending college in Baltimore. Later he did postgraduate work at Johns Hopkins University while teaching and received his doctorate at the University of Kansas City in 1908. He was Superintendant of Schools in DuBois, PA before he was called to the Mansfield Normal School. In Mansfield he was involved in a number of civic activities and served late in his life as president of the First National Bank.

He was born on 23 April 1882 Mardella Springs, Wicomico Co, MD. He died circa 1936 Crile Clinic, Cleveland, OH; complications following an operation two weeks earlier. He was buried Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield, Tioga Co, PA.

     John Strayer was born on 9 December 1765 York Co, PA. He died on 23 November 1831 Fairfield Co, OH, at age 65.

     Alice Celeste Strayner was also known as Alice Stringer. She was born in 1818 St John's, New Brunswick, Canada; noted as 51 years of age in 1870 census. She married Edward Jones, son of John Jones and Modeste Beaulieu, on 12 January 1840 Valleyfield, Quebec Province, Canada; Marriage record refers to her as Celeste Strayner but her application for Civil War widow's pension has her as Alice Stringer. Marriage record is witnessed by Uriah Nason, Uncle of Celeste. Margaret Strayner, Aunt of the bride was also present as were Daniel Ryan and Garret Cavanaugh, friends of the groom.

     John Edward Strayner married Josephete Louise Beaudin, daughter of Louis Beaudin and Marie Grenier, Canada.

     Augustus M. Street was a pattern maker at Mare Island Naval Shipyard.
